ABOUT ME: My name is Bridget, and I’m the creator and writer for Freethoughtify. I’m in my thirties and live in North Carolina by way of Kansas and Florida.
I have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s in public administration. I have worked as a Trial Clerk, prenatal HIV Medical Case Manager, Director of Development and Executive Director, all prior to my current position as a Marketing Manager.
Politically I am a very liberal, progressive Democrat and ideologue, as well as a secular humanist. I am also an agnostic atheist activist. I was the Executive Director for the Florida Humanist Association, co-founded Secular Woman, served on the board of directors for the Secular Student Alliance, briefly worked as a state director for American Atheists, and currently work for Foundation Beyond Belief as the Director of Marketing & Development.
When it comes to my gender, I suppose I am cisgender but I also see myself as gender-queer or gender non-conforming. I’ve never felt feminine and growing up I considered myself a “tomboy”, (but that has a negative connotation in my eyes so I prefer not to use it). I’m still exploring that part of me, and will share more about that in my blog posts.
I was raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses but was disfellowshipped in 2001. Because of that, my parents and brothers disowned me.
I have been in an interracial marriage for 14 years and I’m childless by choice.
I am an ambivert, but I lean toward introversion.
I’m a huge Star Trek: TNG fan, PC gamer and bibliophile. I love photoshopping while also having a fetish for office supplies.
ABOUT FREETHOUGHTIFY: I originally started Freethoughtify in 2013 (after blogging at EmilyHasBooks for several months) and even had other contributors but life became too hectic and I shut down it down. I restarted Freethoughtify in July 2015. The primary subject matter will have a secular liberal slant and will be varied: atheism (especially black atheism), humanism, social justice, geekery, things related to being an ex-Jehovah’s Witness, and I’m not shy when it comes to talking about sex.
In addition, Freethoughtify will have quizzes, videos, original memes, and fundraising campaigns for secular charities.
Eventually Freethoughtify will have an associated conference which will be non-traditional for a freethought conference. It will be centered around fun activities but also include traditional speakers and panels.
